One author described the Edwardian era as: "The end of the century brought the dawning of a new age
and a new attitude toward life. It was an era when social differences dissipated and the mores, customs, and
expectations of the citizenry came together."
The Edwardian period was renowned for the
excess, glamour even the ostentatiousness of the time. It was a time of high
expectations, of social and economic change. Also known as ‘The
Golden Age’, it was definitely ownership by the high of society.
Historically the Edwardian period ran from 1901 to 1910, the reign of King Edward VII.
Many people, when speaking
of fashion during this time, would take the period from the mid 1890s to the outbreak of World War I in 1914.
In the view of society, in particular, London society, Edward, or ‘Bertie’ to his family had an enormous influence. He
enjoyed the trappings of the social elite.
He often enjoyed surrounding
himself around mature women with liberal natures.
