I have found this book to be very useful. My previous experience with making clothing has been purely from brought
patterns. I chose the pattern on page 86, an Edwardian pattern made around 1911.
I really enjoyed the patterns that were in the book and the information about some of the corsets. I have noticed,
looking through a number of reviews on the net, how a lot of people haven’t rated this book highly because they
didn’t have all the information they wanted. I must admit I have had many nights wondering how to solve a particular problem.
At the end of the day it has made me do some good old-fashioned research, and I have learnt so much from doing this
project.
This still has plenty to offer. There are many patterns within the book. It has 21 corsets and stays; four hoop
petticoats, and one bustle. There is plenty of information from Norah’s own research and many entries to show how
corsets and crinolines had an influence on society of the time.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to make the garments or learn more about historical clothing. Great
read.
